Excerpt

5. Do I need to be concerned about exposures from Wi-Fi networks at home and in schools?

(Page 109)

Wireless local area networks, or Wi-Fi, use radio waves to connect Wi-Fi–enabled devices to an access point that is connected to the Internet. Most Wi-Fi devices operate at radio frequencies that are similar to cell phones, typically 2.4 to 2.5 gigahertz (GHz), although more recently there are Wi-Fi devices that operate at somewhat higher frequencies (5, 5.3, or 5.8 GHz). Radio-frequency radiation exposure from Wi-Fi devices is considerably lower than that from cell phones. The UK Health Protection Agency (now part of Public Health England) conducted a measure- ment study to assess children’s exposures to radio-fre- quency exposures from Wi-Fi and concluded that exposures were well below recommended maximum levels and there was “no reason why Wi-Fi should not continue to be used in schools and other places.”

As we raise our children during these challenging times  - when environmental safety is more prevalent than ever -  parents today can use expert guidance to help protect their children from toxins where they live, learn and play.  Because of their smaller, rapidly growing bodies, babies, children and adolescents are at a higher risk of negative effects from exposure to environmental hazards.  With that said, The American Academy of Pediatrics will release Protecting Your Child’s Health: Expert Answers to Urgent Environmental Questions (press release below), an indispensable Q & A book that empowers parents and caregivers with invaluable information  to make educated choices about environmental topics such as food & water safety, air pollution, sun protection, lead, radiation, and pesticides that children may encounter at home, at school or in the community.

THOUGHTS

Protecting Your Child’s Health, intention is to help its readers discover factual information. Its key, to raise healthy children and be informed with current facts. It’s a phenomenal book that should be in every home!

Protecting Your Child’s Health also teaches us that although large scale events such as massive forest fires heighten awareness of environmental threats, we must also pay attention to the invisible hazards in children’s day to day lives.
