DADS debuts on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 19th.
When I was asked to sit in on a zoom call with Bryce Howard regarding her new documentary DADS, I paused. Not because of Bryce, I absolutely adore her, all her movies, just who she is as a human being, kind, loving and attentive. I paused because I lost my Dad in September and I didn’t know if I wanted to pour salt on that wound.
I ripped of the gauze and watched the movie, I was one hot mess. I didn’t know at one point if I was crying, laughing or just laughing and crying. The documentary is filled with stories that will have you in stitches. Bryce shares (spoiler alert) family videos of their birth, yes Ron Howard video taped his children’s birth, and now it’s for the whole world to see. The human connection in this documentary is priceless.
Fathers aren’t really given a book like we are, they’re just thrusted into fatherhood and hope that they’re doing a great job. Being a dad is hard and insanely fulfilling. I want to say Thank you to all the dads that show up, thank you for all the dad jokes, words of wisdom, love and basically for just being you.
