Thank you Netflix for inviting me to the virtual press junket for ARLO THE ALLIGATOR BOY with Michael J. Woodard ("Arlo," former contestant on Season 16 of American Idol), Mary Lambert ("Bertie," Grammy-nominated for her collaboration on "Same Love" with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis) and Ryan Crego (director & EP, story artist on Puss in Boots, Kung Fu Panda 2 and more).
Netflix’s new animated feature Arlo the Alligator Boy is heartwarming and filled with love, understanding and acceptance. Ryan Crago’s directorial debut is a spectacular adventure with an underlying message about people staying true to yourself.
ARLO character is everything we’re trying to install in our kids, to be kind, compassionate, and to always see the best in people. ARLO is the friend I hope my little one will come across (minus the alligator :)) he’s loyal. This is exactly why it’s the best show for our kiddos. Filled with life lessons and teaching moments, great conversation starter.
When I spoke to Ryan Crego, I came to discover that over ten years ago he had sketched a little alligator boy and it evolved throughout the years. Crego’s drawing went from a simple sketch into a full-length 90-minute animated musical for Netflix titled Arlo the Alligator Boy! All this occurred with his wife’s support and little push! Make sure to catch the interview here, on my podcast.
I will leave you with a quote that left me in tears, it sums up Arlo the Alligator Boy perfectly!
“I think there’s a character for everyone in this movie. Everyone has this distinctive quality that somebody will be able to identify with, whether it’s Birdie, or whether it’s Arlo, or Felicia, or even teeny tiny Tony. It’s funny because they’re all on the same journey. Every journey is so unique and specific and special. The diversity is a beautiful thing to see. I think that’s something that everybody will be able to relate with — everyone is so different. I relate with Arlo in so many ways, because he is different. He’s quirky, he’s weird. He’s happy for no reason. The diversity is beautiful, and everybody will be able to relate to someone in this.” – Michael J. Woodard

The animated musical movie, Arlo the Alligator Boy, will launch Arlo’s journey as he meets a group of misfits who quickly become his new family. Once Arlo’s adventure lands him in New York City, the series, I ❤️️ Arlo, will kick off as he and his newfound crew set up shop in an abandoned seaside neighborhood and help bring it back to life.
