Disney’s Frozen 2 DVD Release (2/25)!
Thank you Disney Studios for inviting me to an Early Press Day to celebrate FROZEN 2 DVD release! What a day, we had the honor of interviewing Chris Buck (Director), Peter Del Vecho (Producer), Jennifer Lee (Director/Writer/ WDAS Chief Creative Officer) Jason Ritter (voice of Ryder) paired with Rachel Matthews (voice of Honeymaren) and Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Music and Lyrics), the husband and wife dynamite team sang for us!
Jennifer Lee: I think, in many ways, it was more organic than very specific. We didn't write this sort of from outside or agenda in, we wrote it from character out. But the characters are growing up, and they're confronting a changing world. They're confronting truths about their family, they're confronting their community, their environment. That's what we all wrestle with as we mature: what's our role in the world and what choices do we make?
Chris Buck: There's a song that's on the deleted scenes, "Get This Right," and it was about a proposal to Anna. It was too early too much in the film, and it took their relationship to a different place. It also took away from the Anna-Elsa story too much.
Peter Del Vecho: ...We talked about songs, but I can't tell you how many versions of the script Jen wrote and how many sequences got rewritten. Characters that at one point we loved and had to let go of being merged with other characters. So, you're constantly trying to let the film and the characters tell you where it needs to go. And that means being open to the idea that some things you were in love with may not be the right choice for the movie…
Can you believe this was Ritter’s first time singing? BTW when you have a father as John Ritter you know the talent WILL NOT fall from the tree. Ritter’s first time singing for an audition. He said, “I was scared and really nervous about it and ‘cause I do love singing but I never have never done it. Like when I was in high school, the drama program literally, like when my friends and I were old enough, they just did straight plays. And they’re like known for doing musicals.” He told us he sang “Suddenly Seymour” from Little Shop of Horrors at the first audition and Billy Joel’s “She’s Got A Way” at the final audition. “You know I knew even if I didn’t get the part, I at least had the sort of personal growth, going to a vocal coach and you know, prepared and stood up. And then the next time I’ll get them.”
Rachel Matthews on FROZEN 2, what it meant to her and most importantly the message it brings to our littlest audience goers. “I’d like these little boys and girls who just loved it so much in and also to see videos of them singing the song. It’s like I was singing Disney songs when I was a kid and now here it is a new generation and it’s just been really gratifying to be a part of a movie where I can get behind every single message.”
When Matthews brought her family to the Premiere: “I remember so specifically, especially the premiere, I had my sister on my left and my mom on my right. And at a different moment, I could look at my mom when I would see her crying and which made me cry and I just. You know I know what she was going through during some of those things and those beautiful moments. And then, I looked at my sister and I know she’s going through her own thing and we have our own relationship and I don’t think I’ve ever had that while watching a movie before that was so pure and so beautiful.”
Bobby and Kristen Lopez husband-and-wife duo wrote wrote “Remember Me” for Pixar’s Coco and now FROZEN 2 has come along and they’ve hit another home run! Check out the these amazing two singing for us...OMG, see below.
