Downton Abbey Film Review!
Thank you Focus Features for inviting me to pre-screen and press junket of Downton Abbey Film. We had the chance to interview Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, and Allen Leech. Our morning started with a treat from Magnolia Bakery, Earl Grey Cupcakes and delicious Banana Bread Pudding, O.M.G, it was delicious. As our day progressed we screened Downton Abbey and it was everything you'd expect and more. There are so many incredible funny scenes (think of me during the Queen scene at dinner) and one scene in particular that had me in tears, I mean ugly crying. Downton Abbey has so many plots and twists that you'll be anxious watching, hoping and praying that they pull off what they need to. Watching Downton Abbey Film is full of familiar faces and the dynamics are equivalent to visiting old friends for one more reunion, it's an incredible feeling. I laughed, cried, cheered on and when it was over I couldn’t, I can’t accept that this is it. We must all rally for a sequel...our beloved characters have so much to do and say!
I had a chance to ask Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Allen Leech and asked two questions regarding Downton Abbey Film.
BelAirMommie: Good morning. Thank you for being with us. The movie was outstanding. I wanted to know what are three things that you would like audience members to walk away from this movie?
ELIZABETH MCGOVERN: Entertained. Reassured.
ALLEN LEECH: Happy. And we want them to walk away as well. We don’t want them to, you know, die in the theaters.
ELIZABETH MCGOVERN: And then come back again.
HUGH BONNEVILLE: Yeah, I think that’s a fair... I think that sums it up, really, isn’t it? It is to escape from the hassles of our current world. It’s pretty nice and it’s a nice place to go. And you sort of know you’re going to be looked after, because I think the characters in Downton Abbey look out for each other in some way, shape, or form. And I don’t think we need to apologize for that. It’s just pure escapism. And so it’s a nice place to be for a couple of hours.
BelAirMommie: Do you feel like this is really the end?
HUGH BONNEVILLE: I think realistically, it’s certainly the end for us in terms of the TV show. Of course there could be, because let’s not forget that the central character is the house. And the house is still standing and will be standing in another 100 years. So absolutely. And knowing a little bit of the history of Lord and Lady Carnavron’s family, the current earl who lives there, his grandfather was quite a character. And if those walls could talk in the 1960s, that was one heck of a party house. So some fascinating shenanigans would have gone on over the years. So of course, I think they absolutely could do spinoffs in that way.
My question to you: Did you watch the series? Who’s your favorite character?
