UGLYDOLLS Colorful Baking!

Today I set out to bake UGLYDOLLS cookies at my little one's school, amidst the fun and excitement of baking I found myself in a teaching moment. What made this more meaningful, I actually had a solid example to prove to the kiddos and they took it all in and gave me a huge smile.

I set up the picnic table for the kids to design their cookies, as some used the cutter, they weren’t able to make the perfect doll, flower, egg, daisy, and they were saying, “mine isn’t pretty or it’s not perfect.” I asked them, "but do you think it’s pretty?" They responded “yes,” and this was my open, I explained, “exactly, as long as it’s pretty to you that’s all that matters because no matter what it looks like on the outside it’s still a chocolate chip cookie. What matters in life is what’s on the inside, not the out. Don't allow anyone to make you feel otherwise, you do you, you be you and DO NOT WORRY ABOUT WHAT ANYONE THINKS." UGLYDOLLS teaches us just this, stuffed animals that have imperfections and are set aside, but in reality, every one is different and should be accepted for who they are. The kids were over the moon!

I absolutely love the premise of UGLYDOLLS. UGLYDOLLS helps facilitate the lines of communication with your kiddos regarding acceptance, understanding, and love.

My cookie recipe was super easy, I bought Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookies Chocolate Chip 16.5 oz Tube, cut into pieces and have kiddo flatten out there pieces and use a cutout of choice to create their desired shape. Remind them if it’s not perfect, it’s ok, it’s just like life, “Everyone is like a butterfly, they start out flawed and awkward and then morph into beautiful graceful butterflies that everyone loves.”

UGLYDOLLS In Theaters May 3, 2019

Unconventionality rules in UGLYDOLLS, STXfilms’ new animated musical adventure starring the acting and singing voices of Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton and Pitbull. The film is inspired by the unique and beloved global plush toy phenomenon launched in 2001. In the adorably different town of Uglyville, weird is celebrated, strange is special and beauty is embraced as more than simply meets the eye.

Here, the free-spirited Moxy and her UglyDolls friends live every day in a whirlwind of bliss, letting their freak flags fly in a celebration of life and its endless possibilities, occasionally looking to the sky, where a new UglyDoll will appear and be embraced by the community. Moxy (Kelly Clarkson) loves her square-peg life in this round-hole town, but her curiosity about all things leads her to wonder if there’s something – anything – on the other side of the mountain which nestles Uglyville.

Moxy gathers a group of her closest friends and sets off to find what’s on the other side. They discover another world – Perfection – a town where more conventional dolls are trained in protocols before they graduate and are sent to the “real” world to find the love of a child. In Perfection, Moxy and her crew are subject to the manipulations of Lou (Nick Jonas), the perfect doll in charge of training recruits. Here, the UglyDolls will confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don’t have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most. Also starring in the voice cast of UGLYDOLLS are Wanda Sykes, Emma Roberts, Gabriel Iglesias, and Wang Leehom.

*Disclaimer: Thank you STX for hosting our baking session at school, not only was it a blast but I had a chance to to talk to the kiddos about UGLYDOLLS.
