Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” Press Junket!
Thank you, Disney and Marvel, for inviting me to the Captain Marvel Press Junket, it was spectacular! I had an out-of-body experience, I knew I was sitting in front of talented men and woman that will forever change the landscape of the Marvel Universe. I wish I could have bottled up the moment, it was EPIC! On hand, Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson, Jude Law, Gemma Chan, Lashana Lynch, Clark Gregg, Director Anna Boden, Director Ryan Fleck, and Producer Kevin Feige. You see now, the cast was outstanding, the movie phenomenal and experience, priceless. You'll be blown away when you see Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. She’s absolutely amazing with her death-defying stunts. She is my spirit animal when she described what her work out was, I was left in awe, see below:
BRIE LARSON: I’ve been training for so many hours every day for nine months, I mean every day, I was just like, I’m amazing -- like I sobbed in the gym many times. My trainer would be like, oh, she’s crying again. It’s very emotional when you’re kind of stirring up something very vulnerable and raw inside of you and you’re also learning that it’s just for you; there was nothing for me to prove. I wasn’t proving it to other people at the gym. I certainly wasn’t proving it to my trainer, because he was never going to be fully impressed; it’s his job to not be impressed. It was for myself. The main reason for doing it was so that in moments like this when we’re talking about Carol’s strength and we’re talking about, you know, what I learned from her, it’s that I’m stronger than I realized. Of course, this movie is like assisted with the VFX, because I can’t personally shoot photon blasts. There’s not enough prep in the world for me to do that, yet -- but I will figure it out if there’s a way. But I can stand here and say that I am really strong; I was able to deadlift 225 pounds; I was able to hip-thrust 400 pounds. I was able to push my trainer’s 5000-pound Jeep up a hill for 60 seconds. Um, so this concept, when it comes to like gender norms or what the human body is capable of or in particular maybe what a female body is capable of, it’s capable of a lot, you know. OMG, she’s a bad a$$ in the movie and real life. You see what I’m saying, she’s my spirit, I want to be her.
One of the greatest moments during the press junket was when Lashana Lynch gave a shout out to single moms. As a single mom, I do it all with love, pride, and joy. Thank you Lashana for acknowledging us, me, thank you for seeing me. LASHANA LYNCH: My forever appreciation for single mothers, who don’t get enough light shine on them ever. So to be able to have that opportunity to represent them and say, a universal thank you for your work -- was really special, actually, and I’ve kind of… went to my mum and other mums I know afterward and was like, can I just… just say thanks for… everything that you’ve done for the last…however many years -- and it really goes a long way just to say thank you daily. Because then they’re able to feedback to other mothers and say, you know, we’re actually doing an all right job. We’re actually enough. And so that’s what I’ve taken away.
There’s so much more I could share with you but this article would never end. I will say, go see this movie, it’s everything you expect and more. Take your children, your sons and daughters, they will see what physical strength is but more importantly they will see mental strength. Strength is so much more than being able to kick or punch someone, it is knowing when to trust your instincts, listening to your intuition and most importantly, knowing you can do anything you set your mind to even if others are saying no.
