MARY POPPINS RETURNS arrives in theatres everywhere on December 19th!
Thank you, Disney, for inviting me to a pre-screening of Mary Poppins Returns. Before I start, I’ll say there will zero spoilers. I will, however, let you know how much I loved Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks; Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks; Julie Walters as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen; Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and introducing Joel Dawson as the Banks’ children, with Colin Firth as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherall Wilkins; and Meryl Streep as Mary’s eccentric cousin, Topsy. Angela Lansbury appears as the Balloon Lady, a treasured character from the PL Travers books and Dick Van Dyke is Mr. Dawes, Jr., the retired chairman.
Outstanding cast, outstanding movie, an instant classic that will fill you with love, hope and the belief that everything will somehow work out. Mary Poppins (original) was released in 1964, Mary Poppins Returns sequel has been in the making for 54 years! Mary Poppins Returns centers on the lives of grown-up Jane (Emily Mortimer) and Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw). After the death of Michael's wife, Poppins (Emily Blunt) returns to help raise the new generation of Banks children, enlisting help from street lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda). One of my favorite quotes:
Jane Banks: What brings you here after all this time? Mary Poppins: The same thing that brought me the first time, I’ve come to look after the Banks children. Annabel Banks: Us? Mary Poppins: Oh, yes, you too.
I loved this moment on so many levels because even as adults, being parents, paying bills, having responsibility for others and ourselves, it’s nice to know that there’s someone that cares for you, that genuinely concerned about your well being.
Mary Poppins Returns stirs emotions in you that will leave you feeling nostalgic. You’ll want to get up and dance, laugh or you’ll just downright be melancholy for your own childhood. Emily Blunt captures the very essence of Mary Poppins. From the moment she glides down from the clouds, she’s pure perfection. Mary Poppins returns is a must see, I will say if your kiddo hasn’t seen the original I would have them watch that first and then off to see Mary Poppins Returns. The perfect holiday movie for the entire family, can’t wait to hear what you thought of the movie. I hope you love it as much as we did, x
