For the Holidays

Go Little Tokyo, the community campaign offering insights into one of LA’s most vibrant neighborhoods, is pleased to host another year of gift-giving and merry-making with Go Little Tokyo for the Holidays. Skip the mall this holiday season and head to Little Tokyo in the heart of Downtown LA for an array of unique boutique shopping, charitable offerings, cultural events, delectable treats, and more. Go Little Tokyo provides a handful of reasons to head to Little Tokyo this holiday season, and they’re presented in a list inspired by everyone’s favorite Christmas carols.

1. Shogun Santa is Coming to Town: Be the best gift-giver this holiday season and shop for one-of-a-kind items in Little Tokyo’s array of trendy and traditional Japanese shops. Gift loved ones with SEIJU’s finest Yame Matcha from Tea Master Little Tokyo, the highest-quality Matcha powder in taste, aroma and color. Stop by the new pop-up shop, Muni Handmade, for handmade artisan goods by Japanese and Japanese American artists including vintage Kimono fabric purses, handmade chef aprons, and barrettes made from Japanese Washi paper. Shop local and find something for everyone on your gifting list in Little Tokyo!

2. Merry Mochi and Happy New Year: Whether it’s a holiday dinner party, or a night of family fun celebrating the New Year, always count on Fugestu-do’s Mochi for a deliciously fun time. Made by hand with love for generations by the Ito family in Little Tokyo since 1903, these colorful chewy sweets will delight guests of all ages this holiday season.

3. Not a Silent Night: Kick off the new year in Little Tokyo with The Annual Japanese New Year's Oshogatsu Festival with live entertainment, Japanese food, Taiko drummers, mochi-making and more in the downtown Weller Court Shopping Center and Japanese Village Plaza. The Japanese New Year’s or "Oshogatsu", is one of the most important celebrations for Japanese communities.

4. Spreading Holiday Cheer: Give back this holiday season! Go Little Tokyo and the Little Tokyo Community Council (LTCC) have partnered with Little Tokyo Senior Nutrition Services to help provide meals and resources for the large senior citizen population of Little Tokyo. Donate online today at golittletokyo.com/supportourseniors to help provide a warm meal for the seniors in the neighborhood. Then shop in Little Tokyo Dec. 1 – Jan. 7 at participating Go Little Tokyo for the Holidays shops where you can support our seniors with a cash donation at collection boxes. Funds go directly to the Little Tokyo Senior Nutrition Services.

5. It’s the Most Wonderful Time of Year: Stroll through the romantic streets of Little Tokyo and cozy up with a loved one in Suehiro Cafe, a popular dining spot in the center of DTLA’s Little Tokyo. The petite diner-style restaurant offers a wide array of authentic Japanese favorites that are sure to remind you of your grandmother’s cooking (if she is Japanese).
