Catch Home Again This Weekend!
Writer-director Hallie Meyers-Shyer is a force to be reckoned with, if her name sounds familiar it’s because her mom is Nancy Meyers! Nancy Myers wrote and directed “It’s Complicated,” “Something’s Gotta Give” and “The Holiday,” among others. Before that, she collaborated with her then-husband, “Alfie” director Charles Shyer, on “Baby Boom,” “Private Benjamin” and “Father of the Bride.”
Hallie Meyers-Shyer new movie Home Again, with Reese Witherspoon as Alice, a 40-year-old, recently separated woman who’s raising her two daughters in Los Angeles. After meeting three young filmmakers at a bar, she ends up letting them crash in her guest cottage with the persuasion of her mother, Candice Bergen.
This movie hit home with me, as a single mom you're constantly worried about if you're doing right by your children, if they’re happy, if they’re missing out on anything, how can we fix it and what can we do. In reality, our children just need their parents, they want to see their parents happy and healthy, together or not, they just want us. The struggle is real, moms, consistently worrying, being a hands on mom is a job in itself. I appreciated the fact that Reese captured single mommyhood with pure perfection. She hit the nail on the nose, portraying that single moms are lonely but not desperate. Our children will always come first and it’s okay to have a life outside of the kids. It’s healthy to have friends, work and most importantly something will always be lacking in one of those departments but never the children, we just need to find a healthy balance and that’s different for everyone. As woman it’s important to know that we don’t need a man, what’s important is that we find out who we are, the power within us is magical.
Grab the girls this weekend for brunch and a screening of Home Again, it will have you laughing and most of all it’s important to support our fellow woman in Hollywood. We need to have a larger presence in Hollywood and by supporting women directors we will eventually get to where we need to be, opening doors for our future generation. Have a great weekend, x
HOME AGAIN stars Reese Witherspoon ("Big Little Lies," Wild, Walk The Line, Sweet Home Alabama) as Alice Kinney in a modern romantic comedy. Recently separated from her husband, (Michael Sheen), Alice decides to start over by moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her two young daughters. During a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three aspiring filmmakers who happen to be in need of a place to live. Alice agrees to let the guys stay in her guest house temporarily, but the arrangement ends up unfolding in unexpected ways. Alice’s unlikely new family and new romance comes to a crashing halt when her ex-husband shows up, suitcase in hand. HOME AGAIN is a story of love, friendship, and the families we create. And one very big life lesson: Starting over is not for beginners.
