Bad Moms
This past week Alliance of Moms invited me to see Bad Moms, an event hosted by Fashion Mamas, what a spectacular evening. It’s absolutely amazing to be in a room full of woman with whom are mothers and most important, they are leaving positive marks in our world. These woman are changing lives, daring to make a difference and are doing so, all the while they are humble and welcoming. We started the night off at Whispers for drinks, bites and mamas mingling. It was such a fun night, catching up with friends and most importantly, meeting new moms always tops off the night. After our meet and greet, we made our way to the theater, it was a parade of mamas walking over to our very own private screening of Bad Moms.
Bad moms will have you laughing, crying and screaming, "Hell No!". I haven't laughed this hard in a long time, by the time the movie was over my belly ached. The writers from Hangover have brought us Bad Moms, know that some of the scenes are over the top but that's what makes it phenomenal, you’ll be wishing supermarket runs were that fun, mom parties jumping off the hook, going to the movies midday wouldn't be a novelty, it’d be a given. Bad Moms, moms in general when we form friendships, our bonds are strong, unwavering, mutual respect is given and we can commiserate without being judged. Every woman deserves friends that support you, who are brutally honest, push you to do your best and most importantly believe in you. MIla Kunis speech in the end was superb, nutshell version, we don’t have manuals in raising our children, we want the best for them, we do everything we can for our children and in the end between the disciplining, participating in every extracurricular activity, working, stretching ourselves thin, we think we are Bad Moms and failing but really all we want is for our children to grow up and be good people, guess what, they already are. I highly suggest you grab a few friends to see Bad Moms, you'll not only enjoy it but you’ll laugh so hard you’ll cry.
Alliance of Moms is a new generation of philanthropists whose mission is to break the intergenerational cycle of babies born to teens in Foster Care. Founded by five LA moms in 2014, the Alliance of Moms is a membership based auxiliary group that supports the work of the Alliance for Children’s Rights. The mission is to break the intergenerational cycle of babies born to teens in foster care. Currently, 75% of girls in foster care are pregnant by the age of 21. Over 40% of babies born to youth in foster care will be detained in the first years of life. As parents themselves, they felt a natural affinity for this vulnerable population and recognize that pregnant and parenting foster teens have not had the benefit of parenting role models. They create educational programs to empower these young moms and dads to become informed parents who can give their babies a healthier childhood than their own.
They offer a flagship program, Raising Baby, twice a year. Each Raising Baby has an expert curriculum focused on infant care and early brain development. Foster teen parents participate in workshops while Alliance of Moms volunteers care for their children. Our other programs include: Mama + Babe and Raising Foodies' nutritional cooking classes at St. Anne’s residential facility, our annual Giant Playdate family fundraiser for members and foster families, and monthly Mom’s Night Out evenings to recruit and educate members through a speaker series addressing issues facing foster youth. Alliance of Moms partners include The Honest Company, Ergo, Heirloom LA, The Mama Circle, Too Small To Fail Initiative and Echo Parenting.
FASHION MAMAS is a members-only network founded by fashion editor Natalie Alcala. Providing a stylish and modern resource for local mamas who work in fashion and creative industries, this influential group meets monthly for exclusive, members-only events where they can network, collaborate, talk babies/kids, and seek non-judgmental support — all while watching our little ones grow together. FASHION MAMAS also works with top brands to gift members and produce large-scale events, including Kids Fashion Fair And the #MamasMakingIt panel.
